Johnny Cash Johnny Cash Yakima, WA - September 1979
Johnny Cash in the Sunfair parade. My mom took these pictures since I didn't know how to work a camera at six years old.
Buddy Holly Lubbock, TX - April 1993
Buddy Holly's grave. I took this picture during a 9,000 mile drive across the U.S. with my friend Bruce.
Cad Ranch Cad Ranch Amarillo, TX - April 1993
The famous Cadillac Ranch. I'm the dorky looking one holding up a copy of Springsteen's "The River" which contains the song "Cadillac Ranch".
Hwy 61n49 Clarksdale, MI - April 1993
The legendary "Crossroads" outside of Clarksdale, Mississippi. This is where an unknown man named Robert Johnson supposedly sold his soul to the devil in the 1930s.. A year later he emerged as a one of the most prominent blues musicians ever, then died of arsenic poisioning in 1938. 50 years later he became a major cash cow for Columbia Records when his "Complete Recordings" box set became a big seller. This photo was taken during a dark and stormy night at 3:30am, at the intersection of Highway 49 and Highway 61. I had no guitar to summon the devil, so my guitar playing still sucks to this day. (Check out the movie Crossroads, for some R. Johnson references. Music by Ry Cooder. Steve Vai also has some wank-o-rama guitar in the movie finale)
BelmarAsbury Park Asbury Park, etc. - May 1993
Here we have things from New Jersey. 10th and "E" streets in Belmar, NJ. Famous because of Springsteen's "E" Street Band and the song "10th Avenue Freeze-out". Asbury Park
Alpine Valley Alpine Valley, Wisconsin - May 1993
Alpine Valley Music Theater. Stevie Ray Vaughan and 4 others were killed here in a helicopter crash on August 26, 1990.
Otis Otis Madison, WI - May 1993
Otis Redding's plane crashed into Lake Monona on December 10, 1967.
Highway 61 Rural Minnesota - May 1993
Highway 61 visited.
I took this picture, so when I return to Highway 61 on a future bike trip, it will truly then be "Highway 61 Revisited" for me.
Clear Lake Surf Ballroom Clear Lake, Iowa - May 1993
Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens were all killed here in a plane crash on February 3, 1959. This quaint little marker is out in the middle of a cornfield in rural Iowa. The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake is the last place the above three played. This is the memorial marker outside the ballroom.
